Show The Tax for College Purposes. It is to be hoped that no one will refuse or fail to pay the tax that will be apportioned to them as their part for the purchase of land for the Branch Agricultural College, in accordance with the action taken by the mass meeting of citizens held in the tabernacle recently. The person who, if at all able to do so, refuses to pay his portion of the tax, by so doing puts himself on record as an enemy of the school and of Cedar City as well. The saving to every family residing in the immediate vicinity of this city which has a son or daughter who should attend school above the eighth grade, by reason of having hav-ing the school right at their door, is more each and every year their child is in the school than their entire portion of the special tax to be levied. In addition, the presence of the school in this city, attracts trade, homeseekers and visitors, so that nearly every piece of property in the city is directly enhanced by reason of the school being located here. The committee having the matter in charge, Bishops Matheson and Webster, and Lehi W. Jones are especially desirous that every one will consider carefully their duty in'the matter before making any adverse comment. In other words, think twice before speaking. |
