To Keep the Hair in Curl One Week. Part to itself as much hair as you choose to curl, then take a bar of tar soap and dissolve enough in soft water ti. make same rather soapy. "Wet tho hair with the above and comb with a fine comb, and while the hair is yet damp, "do ttp" on tins (wrapped with paper t prevent cutting the, hair) an1 ! let remain in the hair two or three days. or until very dry. Then when the hair is undone it. will be in "glossy ringlets"' ftnd will remain so for a week or more. Same can be "done up" over a "rat" and makes a lovely "curly pompadour." j For evening wear, use side combs if you j like. I j For Hair and Complexion. i Lavender water is said to brighten j the complexion if dabbed on the face i ' after washing. Many receipes are giv- j I en for preparing various shampoos for the hair. Many writers recommend j i an egg shampoo: others bicarbonate of i I soda : still others a dash of ammonia j in the water, although ammonia and ! borax are both said to destroy the ; luster, and vitality of the hair. It is I queer that nobody seems to think of i soap, yet soap and water are cheaper titan an elaborate shampoo, and they do the work quite as thoroughly. Opinions differ as to how often to wash the hair. Some women get along with two or three times a year, and from the color o: the water in which they rinse Off their locks it is evident that that is quite often enough. Others wash their j hair once a week, and claim that that j is none too often. Each must decide for hersflf. If the hair remains dry and brittle for a week after the shampoo, it has been robbed of too much o::. either from using too strong a soap of shampoo fluid, or else because it did not r.erd washing. On the other nana, oily hair will stand washing oftener. If "the hair is naturally dry, it is a good idea to rub a little vaseline into the . toots. This docs not mean that the hair should be gummed up or slicked over, with grease, but a wee bit snouia j be taken up on the lingers and mas-! mas-! saged into the scalp. Swei't oif or al-j al-j mond oil answers the same purpose. |
