Show ARTISTIC FURNISHINGS. Suggestions for Handsome Color Schemes. A living room and hall combined would be nice done in a forestry paper in greens, browns and tans. This design de-sign has tiees and leaves, with little landscapes, and is most decorative, side walls cohered with this style paper. pa-per. Should the border not be used, let. two feet of the walls directly below be-low the ceiling be paper in a tint to correspond' with the ceiling. To cover the top edge of the paper and to give a smooth finish, use heavy picture molding of a green tone, that predominates in the paper. As to hangings, plain material will be best for curtains in this room, and I should prefer a brown cotton poplin. pop-lin. I would have the rod inconspicuous. inconspicu-ous. and for this reason would select a dark oak variety. The curtains should hang straight to the iloor from the top of the windows, and I would not use rings, but instead in-stead would run a wide hem at the top, putting the pole through thisi It will be an improvement if eight- inch tapestry bands are put down the sides and across the bottoms of these curtains. Against the glass, falling to the sill, a deep cream net hanging with ball fringe will be pretty. These curtains should be pushed back from the center cen-ter of the window. Have the floor waxed and use oriental ori-ental rugs a,s coverings. In furniture, dull-finished mahogany of the colonial (not French) type would be best, and the addition of a couple of chairs done in ligt green upholstery uphol-stery will give a desirable color note. In kitchen and pantry have painted walls, and as these rooms are sunny, I would select a Dutch blue for them. Cover the floor with blue and white linoleum. Have natural wood chairs, stained black, and lot the table legs be the same, the top unpainted. A black plate rack will be ornamental orna-mental and useful. The kitchen china should be blue and white. Be sure to have a porcelain sink with wrought-iron fixtures. Blue enamel cooking utensils cost no inore than agate and will be nice because they will harmonize. As the dining-room opens directly from the living room, the color scheme must be in tone. For this I would suggest sug-gest a cjull gray-green plain cartridge paper with the same color ceiling as that in the living room. Paper the walls to the plate rack and let the ceiling tint meet the latter. Finish the floor like that of the ceiling. |
