Show OGDEN, UTAH. ! (Special Correspondence.) The building of the new viaduct is pronounced by all a blessing, as it will afford work for so many men hitherto unemployed, and greatly in need of a means of subsistence. Arbor day was celebrated with appropriate ap-propriate exercises in the city schools, more than 1,000 rose bushes being distributed dis-tributed to children for planting, while 2.000 were put out in Lester park. Ogden Og-den will soon be a rival of Portland if the City Improvement league continued its good work. D. C. Bailey of Colorado has purchased pur-chased 131 lots near the Ogden Sanitarium Sani-tarium for the purpose of erecting cottages cot-tages for health-seekers who desire to be benefited by the baths. The me-' dicinal properties of these waters are being recognized as second to none. Funeral services over the remains of Edward S. Luty were impressive and solemn. The immense gathering testified testi-fied to the respect and esteem in which he was held. Mr. Luty was a general favorite with all the railroad men with whom he came in contact, his honor winning general esteem and confidence. Ogden had for guests last Tuesday-two Tuesday-two very distinguished men, Paul Morton, Mor-ton, ex-secretary of the navy, and Samuel Newhouse, the great miner. The former is touring the country in order to make himself familiar with its conditions. He was interrogated on the money question, and was exceedingly exceed-ingly hopeful in his replies. A new system of lighting passenger coaches is to be given a trial on trains of the' O. S. L. between our city and Salt Lake. Gasoline is put in the bottom bot-tom of the reservoir, where after having hav-ing soaked into . absorbent cotton it is allowed to evaporate, the gas being let through pipes to the burners, and bright lights being obtained at little cost. The services of Holy week are observed ob-served in the true spirit of the church at St. Joseph's, all preparations having been made to render the repository as beautiful as possible. The children of the Holy Angel's Sodality will be the privileged ones to walk in procession before that king and Savior who so long ago uttered the loving invitation: "Suffer the little ones to come unto me, and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The culmination of a week of prayer and praise will be reached Easter morning when joyful Alleluias will ring out at the three masses, 6, ,8:30 and 10:30. I The members of St. Joseph's congregation congre-gation were invited last Sunday to examine ex-amine the work being quietly and unostentatiously un-ostentatiously clone in the basement of the church, which when completed will be an entertainment hall of which the Catholics may well be proud. Spacious, airy, well-finished and thoroughly equipped, it will meet the 'demands of amateur dramatic societies, afford pleasure and profit to the Catholics of our city, and be the scene of many a social gathering in the years to come. A very satisfactory examination in church history was passed AVednesday morning by the members of the graduating grad-uating and under-graduate classes. These young ladies have proved themselves, them-selves, on previous occasions, to be students stu-dents of profane history, and now their claim as historians in the most important impor-tant branch is undisputed. Mrs. Dan Gamble of Peterson, Wyo.-, spent last Monday with her daughter, Ansta, of the class '08. Another welcome wel-come visitor is Mrs. Ar. J. Peters of Ely, who will remain in the city to enjoy Easter with her daughter, Frances. Fran-ces. Miss Ruby Cook left Tuesday for a few weeks' rest. She will return to resume re-sume her studies at the beginning of the month. I Spring weather and spring hats are exceedingly diverting, yet the young ladies do not lose interest in their studies, stud-ies, for June examinations tiike on a formidable appearance. Easter Monday Mon-day will, however, be greeted with delight. de-light. Arbor day. with, its tendency to make beautiful the school grounds was not observed with any extra demonstration dem-onstration at Sacred Heart, for the beautifying of the exterior of the academy acad-emy is not the work of a day, but of constant attention. The new cement muik.s anora much pleasure to young pedestrians who have forsaken the orchard for the new path. Miss Bernice Browne has resumed her studies after a long spell of sickness sick-ness which, however, did not affect her sunny smile orher merry laugh. , There is a general air of Easter cleaning around the academy, and the process, we know, will not be confined to the material part, but will extend to the spiritual domain as well for Easter promises to be a joyous day indeed at Sacred Heart.
