THE TOUCH of the Tianola is controlled by a small lever i. e.. the accent stop which gradually shuts off the wind from the pneumatic as the stop is moved from right or left. It permits not only absolute delicacy, but instantaneous sensitiveness to the will of the player, and enables him to accentuate individual notes. This is indispensable to artistic piano playing and gives a vivifying: personality to a rendition. The player of the Pianola may observe all the distinctions between, "legato," "non-leg'ato" and "staccato." The Pianola, through its accent stop, also allows the slight emphasizing em-phasizing of the first note in each bar. as is often necessary, or the striking of the solo note hard and softening the accompaniment. It is the human element that has so astonished and delighted musicians. musi-cians. It i3 this feature of the Pianola which removes it from the ranks of mechanical instruments and renders it enjoyable to persons of cultured and critical musical tastes.
