Show Obituary. Eugene McCarthy, prominent in the business and political life of Denver, died Wednesday morning, October 28, at his home. 34C0 Humboldt street. Mr. McCarthy was ill but a week and at no time until a few hours before his death was his condition considered serious. His wife and daughter, Miss Esther McCarthy, were in St. Louis and did not reach home until Friday morning. The only relative at his bedside bed-side when the end came was Miss Mary Tehan. of San Francisco, a sister jot Mrs. McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy was born in County Cork. Ireland, fifty-eight fifty-eight years ago and had been a resident resi-dent of Colorado for about thirty years. For a long time he had been actively interested in politics and was serving as county commissioner at the time of his death. Mr. McCarthy's funeral took place Monday morning, November 2nd. from Annunciation church, and was under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus. Delegations from the Knights of St. John, the Ancient Order r.y ' . . of Hibernians and Catholic Mutual Benefit association were also in attendance. attend-ance. Solemn High Mass of Requiem was sung by Rev. Christopher Walsh, with Rev. J. J. Donnelly as deacon and Rt. Rev. Mgr. Robinson suh-deacon. The sermon was preached by Mgr. Robinson. The pallbearers were Dr. P. V. Carlin, George D. Curtis, William Lawson, John A. Keefe, T. J. Quinlan, Thomas Sullivan, Lawrence Bell and F. W. Paroth. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Interment was in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cal-vary cemetery, where service was conducted con-ducted by the Elks, of which order Mr. McCarthy was a member. Mr. McCarthy is survived by a widow and one daughter, Miss Esther McCarthy: Mc-Carthy: also a son, Dennis McCarthy, who was away from home when his father died. A brother. John McCarthy, McCar-thy, of New York, and three sisters complete the list of Mr. McCarthy's relatives. The sisters are Mrs. Kath-erine Kath-erine Corcoran of Denver, Mrs. Thomas Hanifan of Los Angeles and Mrs. Patrick Pat-rick McAuliffe of Iowa. Much sympathy sympa-thy is felt for the family in this death, which followed so closely that of the cider daughter, Miss Bessie McCarthy, which occurred in August of this year. It was the shock of hpr death which necessitated a change to a lower altitude alti-tude for Mrs. McCarthy, and her health had just commenced to improve when she was summoned home by the death- of her husband. Death came on Sunday, November 1, to the relief of Pasquale Tobiili. the infant son of Mr. and Mr.". Josef Tobiili, To-biili, prominent Italians of Denver. The little one, who was just beginning to walk, pulled over a pan of scalding water on himself on October 21st. and in spite of all that medical science could do. suffered agony until he fell into his last sleep. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the family fam-ily home. 3455 Navajo street. Service was read in Mount Carinel church. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery. tic aN sit H. A. Burlein of 1029 South Washington Washing-ton street died on Sunday. November 1, at his home. Funeral took place Tuesday Tues-day morning from St. Francis de Sales church, which was filled with sorrowing sorrow-ing friends. Requiem Mass was read by Rev. J. J. Donnelly and members of Denver council 539, Knights of'Colum-bus, of'Colum-bus, acted as pallbearers and escort to the cemetery. n Henry Stommel. the 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stommel. of 3241 Adams street, was buried Wednesday with Requiem Mass at St. Elizabeth's church. Interment was in Mount Olivet Oli-vet cemetery. |
