Show . TilE SUXXY SIDE. Every normal person desires a long life. Of course this includes the wish for a happy life, and the way in which we take life goes far toward its conditions. Very often we see recipes for longevity. long-evity. But the one recently given by tho Rev. Dr. Robert Collycr after passing his SOth birthday anniversary, an-niversary, is one of the most practical and sensible ever offered. It is simply ibis : "Live a natural life, er.t what you want, and walk on the sunny side of the street." There is more in this advice than might appear on the surface. To be sure, the physiological act of "walking on the sunny side of the street" is one to be observed, for it is better for everyone to absorb ' all the sunshine possible, because sunshine is nature's na-ture's great rejuvenator-iind upbuilder. The larger number of human aHments are the result of living too much indoors. This applies particularly to the woman who keeps house, as well as to the men or women who shut themselves up in an office, store; or factory all day long, day after day, but there is also another and move figurative meaning. To "keep on the sunny side" of everything is the best kind of a tonic. To keep cheerful, to refuse to look at the dark side of 'such troubles and vexations as come our way.' and to.lct our cheerfulness so shine that others will bask iu-he rays, that is a tempera-.. ment worth cultivating, and one especially, invaluable invalu-able in the home. "Then "Live a" natural life." That is get as near to nature as you can. (Jo out of doors every day for a brisk walk: Go to the woods at least once a week in summer and-try to have a flower garden if practicable in which you can spend some time. This is to the housewife, who. bears the daily burdens bur-dens of housework heavily upon her shoulders. As to diet, Dr. Collycr says: "Eat what you want." What you really want is what you need for proper indigestible dainties. -:?Eat good, plain, nourishing food, get all the outdoor exercise you can, do not worry over what you cannot help, and in every respect, re-spect, "Walk on the sunny side of the street." 1 I ; " |
