Show HIGH-HEELED FRAUDS. The .' high-heeled shoe recently proved the undoing of two imposters in New York. Two women in that city dressed up as members of a Catholic sisterhood the other day, and proceeded to gather in a harvest of small offerings offer-ings from the charitable. Their "make-up" was perfect in almost every respect. Like Achilles, however, their weakness lay in their heels. They wore fashionable high-heeled shoes. A detective who saw them descending the steps of an elevated, railroad station, noticed the heels; and' it set him wondering how long-' Catholic Sisters were following Parisian styles in shoes. '.This wonderment . merged gradually ! into suspicion, and suspicion into "Con-' "Con-' viction that the high-heeled "Sisters' : were frauds. Consequently he arrested ' them, and events justified his keen-eightedness. keen-eightedness. ' |
