The paper will open here under very favorable auspices, and if it maintains the same spirit, energy and fairness which characterized it in the Colorado capital, it will be an acquisition to our city and state, and a source of information infor-mation valuable to the general public as well as to the people whose religious views it will chiefly represent. (Front the Salt Lake Tribune.) Next week the first issue of The Intermountain In-termountain Catholic will be publish I in this city, under the managemen and editorial - direction of Frank McOuiio. v . The new journal absorbs the plant and subscription list of the Colorado Catholic, Cath-olic, a paper which has been established Tor fourteen years. Father Malon -. editor ed-itor and proprietor of the Colorado paper, pa-per, sell3 out his ownership, but will contribute editorially to the new journal. jour-nal. The enterprise is. in effect the removal re-moval of a large paper from Denver m Utah, and means much to Utah. Th-- Colorado Cat'iolic has a circulation of 8,000 in the intermountain states, which puts the new publication on a sound basis from the start. The Intermountain Intermoun-tain Catholic has the support and approval ap-proval of the various bishops in the territory it aims to cover, and Bishop Scanlan has given it his endorsement. The paper is financially well backed by prominent Salt Lake Catholics, and its success seems assured. w 'J? (Salt Lake Herald.) v The Colorado Catholic, which t-r .y , fourteen .years has fulfilled a mission of ' peace and good will to all men. has ceased to exist as a publication under that name, and henceforth will be is-Tsuod is-Tsuod as The Intermountain Catholic. t i Kvith place of publication in Salt Lake instead of Denver. In a business sense the undertaking" is of importance, and with the rapid growth of population which seems certain, the project is tound to succeed. - The absorption of the Colorado Catholic, Cath-olic, which Father T. H. Malone, the noted orator and writer, has made a power for gooel, by the Intermountain Catholic is due to the efforts of Alexander Alex-ander H. Tarbet and Frank McGuire. who, before his arrival in Salt Lake last month, achieved distinction on the I Etof n.f tho W.,. Vnrlr Tnnrnol o .rl o '.. of the San Francisco Examiner. Mr. j Tarbet has, it is understood, tendered Mr. McGuire whatever financial back- ing he may need. Later a stock com-i com-i pany will be formed to conduct the journal. f I In the current ispue of frip t oorado 1 Catholic, Father Malone takes oppor-i oppor-i tunity to tell why the paper will here- '-j after be publirfned in Suit Lake instead of Denver. This city is more central than is Denver for reaching the larsre I constituency in the intermountain. states, and moreover Salt Lake and the region tributary are destined to prosper I anel grow in population several fold by the advent of more railroads and by ! mining developments. Father Malone I severs his active connection with the paper which has given him fame, but I he Will be a regular contributor to the S editorial columns of the new pubiica- tion. ; Mr. McGuire will be the publisher of tho Intermountain Catholic, and he will have the assistance of a .competent ?taff of writers. The continuation of ! the Colorado Catholic under the title ! of the Intermountain Catholic has t the endorsement of Bishop Scan-' Scan-' Ian and his colleagues. Tne paper , will be a high-class weekly, and will be the official publication of the Catholic ;' church in the intermountain states. As Mr. McGuire stated yesterday, it will represent the thought, affairs, progress and interests of the church and churchmen, church-men, and will be conducted on a broad. t liberal plane. It will fight no sect or class, but aim to harmonize all interests inter-ests along the lines 'so successfully followed fol-lowed by Bishop Scanlan's church With the very large subscription list of the established paper to- start on. The Intermountain Catholic will be issued is-sued from this city next week, and the hope is entertained that the publication, publica-tion, which will work for the great good of Salt Lake and the inviting field tributary, will be attended with greater prosperity, if possible, than in the past. " (From The Colorado Catholic.) The. Colorado Catholic takes pl?as-ure pl?as-ure in announcing a change in its management man-agement which will be of great advantage advant-age to its read?rs in the future. For a long time the paper has fceen at a great disadvantage in reaching its subscribers in Montana. Idaho. Utah, Nevada, western Wyoming and western west-ern Colorado, owing to the fact that Denver is situated in the remote east- i ern part of the intermountain coun- try. Our readers have long complained J of the necessary length of time consumed con-sumed in the delivery of these papers and very justly so. in our opinion. In order to obviate this delay a chansre has been determined upon which will hiput into effect at once. f Commencing with the next issue the Colorado Catholic will be known as The Intermountain Catholic, and published pub-lished at Salt Lake City, which, beir.g 1 the center of the intermountain staies. j offers superior inducements from everv 1 point of view for the publication-of a r weekly newspaper. In addition to the o j4. K""'-a.nim wnieii win he had at Salt Lake City, we are pleased to inform our readers that arrangements ar-rangements have been completed for ; , the publication in future of a larger and far superior papper. - ... . 11 -The paper as stated will be kJTTT: yV 'as The Intermountain Catholic, and J. will be under the management of Mr. ' f, Frank J. McGuire, formerly of the I New York Journal and San Francisco i Examiner. We are confident that no : one could be secured who is better i I qualified than Mr. McGuire for the , l. j I management of a high-class Catholic .. . ; v paper. j In future all communications should' be addressed to The Intermountaini - Catholic, Salt Lake City. Utah. Qur f subscribers will please make all remit- tances to the sam address. i |
