He was a cultured., genial gentlemen, who won lhe confidence and esteem of all who knew him for manv admirable qualities of mind and heart. George X. Duw wap first appointed warden of the Utah state prison in 1SS2. He -lled the position for four years and then resigned on account of a change in administration. When Utah was admitted to the union as a state, in 189tJ, Dow was reappointed to the position of warden, and has acted in that capacity since then. The deceased came to Utah in lfeM and was- appointed to the position of prison warden by United States Marshal Mar-shal Ireland. He resigned in 16 but v-as reappointed eight years later and has served continuously bin re Mr Dow was interested in the sheeri business busi-ness and at the time of his death owned a sheep ranch in Wvomlng . harden Dow Mas hi -his--mt v-'thiAl year. He was employed for a number of years on the Louisville Xashville road, where he worked his way from a brakeman on a freight train. to a passenger conductor. Dow took the last-train between Louisville, Ky., and Xashville.
