Show Dies at Advanced Age. At the ripe old age of 102 years. Mrs. i Mary Ann Motley last Sunday closed 4 her "eyes for the last and eternal i rest. ; She was buried Tuesday morning from the Catholic church at Harman, where High Mas was celebrated and '. the funeral oration delivered over her "tenia ins by Rev. Father Timothy OT'.rian. In point of years Mr?. Motley was the oldest resident of the city, and although' she had lived two and one hundred years in which has been crowded much of the history of the eiviliaed world, to see the old woman move about one would think her but half her real age. Mrs. Motley had never been ill a day in her life, her death bfiing due to advanced years, She, however, had spent the last score of years of her life in the hospitals of thi? city, where slie had been placed by her son. James Motley of this city, who thought it best for her to remain where the best ?f care could be given her in the latter lat-ter years of her life. Mrs. Motley had been in St. Anthony's An-thony's hospital for the past seven years, previous to which she was in St Joseph's. Her 100th anniversary was spent in the former hospital and was the occasion of a big celebration. celebra-tion. Mrs. Motley first saw the light' of day in Switzerland, Nov. 14. 1S02. She was married in her native land, and came to this country with her husband hus-band in 1S50. Their early years in the United States were ppent in the middle mid-dle west, finally coming to Colorado , in 1K53. Mrs. Motley was the mother of four boys and one girl, all of whom are dead but two sons, William and James. ' the former residing in Leadville and the latter in this city. ; Mrs. Motley was a very devout Cath- olie and had been a member of the Harman parish for the past twenty years. During her long stay in the hospital before l.-er death Mrs. Motley o.-eiipied her time in reading the lives of the areat saints. Her little German prayer book was a constant companion, compan-ion, and over the bead of her bed hung a picture of the lare Pope Leo XIIT. He.- funeral was one of the largest seen jn this city for some time. The his; services over the remains of the aced woman were very impressive and Hie little church was taxed to its capacity. |
