Show FATHER CUSHNAHAN. Apprehensions Aroused in Ogden Over Reported Promotion. , Ogden, Jan. 6. Editor Inter Mountain Catholic: The announcement in the Salt Lake Tribune that Rev. Father Cushnahan's nanne is on the list of those deemed worthy to succeed the late Bishop Leni-han'a Leni-han'a sterling qualities and noble char-the char-the liveliest apprehensions in the Ogden community. On all sides one hears nothing but the keenest regrets expressed. ex-pressed. Nor are they confined to Catholics alone, for Father Cushnahan's Cushna-han's sterlin 'qualities and noble character char-acter have endeared ;him to all classes and creeds, and we venture to say he has not an enemy in this city. For over twenty years this noble son of the Emerald Isle has labored in our midst with heart and brain and brawn, and the uplifting power of his devoted life and labors not even his mo;t intimate inti-mate friends can guage. Though al ways gracious and courteous, he has ever fearlessly championed the right and has never been known to yield one jot or title when there was question of principle or religion in question. We all ' realize his fitness for the miter, but Utah, and especially Ogden, can ill spare the services of so able' a priest of God. The fear of losing Father Cushnahan is especially distressing dis-tressing to the Catholics of Ogden, just now, when the magnificent church which has been life lifelong dream is so near its completion. - Begun amidst 1 difficulties, that would 'have disheart- j ened anyone of a less 'heroic mold, the church has risen by 'degrees- until it-stands it-stands today a crowning monument to Father ' Cushnahan's strenuous exer- , tions and dauntless-courage. It shines as an embodiment of the ardent zeal of a devoted pastor and the generosity" generos-ity" of a loyal congregation. Would to God' that our purses were as long as our generosity is deep, and Father Cushnahan would not have long to wait for the full realization of the dream of his priest soul, the consecration of the beautiful Church of St. Joseph.
