Show CHURCH NOTES. Mrs. W. F. McCornick and Mrs. William Wil-liam Burke will attend to the altars next Fundaj-. Rev. Father Morrissey celebrated mass in Bingham last Sunday. Services will be held at the Utah state penitentiary next Sunday. Mass will be celebrated at Mercur next Sunday. The members of the Sodality of the Children of Mary will receive Holy Communion in a body at the 9 o'clock n.ass next Sunday. The regular monthly meeting will be held at St. Mary's academy in the afternoon aft-ernoon at - o'clock. The baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cordier of P.inghim was baptized bap-tized last Sunday by Rev. Father Morrissey. Mor-rissey. The little one was christened Fontella Marie, and the god-parents were Mrs. ' L. Gavin and Mr. William J. Stevens. The ladies of the Altar society of St. Mary's cathedral held a meeting last ' . Monday afternoon at the residence of j Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlan for the pur pose of electing officers for the coming year. A number of the members were present, but the election was postponed j until the first Monday in February in order that all the members may be present. Rev. Father Kiely presided at the meeting on Monday and discussed plans for increasing the membership of the society. ; There are a number of outstanding ' accounts due to the society and an effort will be made to collect the ' . amounts. For this purpose several of the ladies have been appointed as col-; col-; ' lectors at the masses next Sunday. At the 8 o'clock mass will be Mrs. Bixby and Mrs. Gleason; at the 9 j o'clock mass, Mrs. D. H. Bero and Mrs. . ! , I- Kirk; at the 11 o'clock mass, Mrs. V ; ! I. W. Farrell and Mrs. J. M. Moore. V ! v" ' hold their usual monthly meeting next Monday evening, Jan. 13. Miss Lottie Owen, soprano soloist of the Cathedral choir, spent a few days last week in Willard visiting her parents. pa-rents. Rehearsal for the members of the 11 o'clock choir was resumed on Friday evening. The children who belonjr to the 9 o'clock choir must positively attend the rehearsal on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The young girls of the choir have rehearsal re-hearsal at 4 o'clock. The parents are requested to see that the children attend at-tend promptly and regularly. The ladies of the- Altar society contemplate con-template giving an evening card party in the near future for the benefit of the Altar society of the Cathedral. J. P. Murphy of St. Louis is spending spend-ing a few weeks in the city, and while here his excellent baritone voice will be often heaid in the choir. Mrs. Cloy Elmer of ,the Cathedral choir has gore to California on a tvro weeks' business trr. The Knights of Columbus held their usual monthly meeting last Wednesday Wednes-day evening. Last Sunday, during the 11 o'clock Mass, a thief entered the church and after simulating a most devout holy attitude, quietly snatched a purse that was laying in one of the pews and immediately decamped. A few moments mo-ments later , a lady, , who saw the act, reported the theft to the owner and a search was immediately made for the thief, who, however, had disappeared, leaving no trace of himself, only a strong "alcoholic breath," by which he could be followed any distance. The purse belonged to Mrs. John Hlckey. and fortunately it contained only some small change. |
