Show I OGDEN, UTAH. ! Rt. Rev. Lawrence Scanlan, the Very Rev. Vicar General D. Kiely, both of the Utah diocese of the Catholic church, visited Ogden today and were i the guests of the Rev. Father P. M. : Cushnahan of St. Joseph's church in Ogden. which was so badly damaged by the' windstorm. The visit of the prelate and his vicar was for the purpose of condoling and consulting with Father Cushnahan in regard to the loss and the best means of repairing it, and to decide what disposition dis-position should be made of the lot on Twenty-fifth street where the old Catholic Cath-olic church was completely demolished by the storm. St. Joseph's will be repaired, but the old church will probably be hauled away and the lot left available for some other structure. Salt Lake Tribune, Trib-une, Oct. 24. A prttty double wedding was celebrated cele-brated in St. Joseph's Catholic church Wednesday morning, when the Moy-nahan Moy-nahan sisters were married simultaneously. simultane-ously. Miss Elizabeth being wedded to Mr. George Foley of Portland, Utah, and Miss Mary to Mr. W. J. Moran of Ogden. Nuptial mass was celebrated by the Rev. P. M. Cushnahan and the church was beautifully decorated. The brides were attended by Miss Jo-sie Jo-sie Moynahan and the grooms by Joseph Jo-seph Moynahan and Joseph Loughren. Word was received her Tuesday that Mayor E. M. Conroy, who was called to Iowa suddenly on account of death, a few days ago, would return to Ogden Og-den tomorrow. A reception was tendered them on Wednesday evening at the residence of J. P. O'Neill on Grant avenue, and the two young pairs were the recipients of congratulations from hundreds of friends and relatives. The young ladies who became brides are cultured young women, who have been educated by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, in Sacred Heart academy in Ogden, where they had attended the academy for some years. The grooms are young business men of Ogden, both being well and favorably regarded in this community, and Mr. Foley just recently re-cently having launched into business ) 9 for himself at the! new town of Portland. Port-land. The two coulles will take a short honeymoon trip. 1he brides were clad in neat traveling c istumes at the time of the ceremony. James C. Guthrie, president of th Commercial Com-mercial National hank, is seriously ill at his room at th Healy hotel as the result of an attaifv of pneumonia. Dr. Condon, who is Intending him. pronounces pro-nounces the case J severe one, and aggravated ag-gravated by the fact that Mr. Guthrie is 76 years of agt and of corpulent build. On Rosary Sunday, Oct. 7, the members mem-bers of the Childreb of Mary of St. Joseph's Jo-seph's church approached holy communion com-munion in a body. The same day was chosen for the election of officers. At 3 p. m. the members mem-bers met at Sacred Heart academy and. after deliberation, nominations were made and elections followed with this result: President. Miss Belle Spenser: vice president. Miss May Conroy: secretary sec-retary and sacristan. Miss Bessie McCarthy; Mc-Carthy; treasurer. Miss Madge Leonard. Leon-ard. The wedding of Miss Alice Flowers and Daniel Loughran took place Wednesday Wed-nesday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Joseph's Jo-seph's Catholic church, the Rev. Father Fa-ther Cushnahan officiating. Immediately Immedi-ately after the ceremony the young couple left over the Rio Grande Western West-ern for Salt Lake and a number of Colorado Col-orado points on a honeymoon trip. The bride is one of the valued teachers in the kindergarten grade, and her loss will be keenly felt at the Madison school, where she was engaged. The groom is in the train service of the Rio Grande Western, and is a son of Joseph Loughran of Ogden. P Healcy has returned from Chicago much improved in health. Mrs. Thomas Keogh was visiting in Salt Lake for a few days last week. Mrs. E. M. Conroy was a Salt Lake visitor during last week. T. D. Ryan, formerly cashier of the Commercial National bank, was in the city last week for a short time on a visit. Abbott Maginnis left Monday for Reno, Nev., where he goes to take a position as telegraph editor of the Reno Gazette for a couple of months. James Conlisk has received a telegram tele-gram from Nevada to leave here Saturday Sat-urday next for his new position with the Charles M. Schwab mining concern. con-cern. His successor in the ticket office at the Union depot has not been appointed ap-pointed as yet. Sacred Heart Academy. An election of officers held recently at Sacred Heart academy, resulted in the following selection: President, Miss Stella Spencer; vice-president. Miss May Conroy: sacristan and secretary. Miss Ucssie McCarthy: treasurer. Miss May O'Brien. Tf the newly-elected officers offi-cers are as successful in their administration admin-istration r.s were the young ladies who preceded them, we may hope for like favorable results dramatic entertainments entertain-ments of marked ability, social gatherings, gather-ings, of which they were the charming charm-ing centre. Every Tuesday and Thursday, about 4 p. m. abbreviated costumes rue donned by the young ladies, preparatory prepara-tory to the physical culture lesson. Once in the hall, however, attention is directed exclusively to the caDable, graceful instructress, Mrs. Ross, whose power of holding her pupils is proof of lier acknowledged ability. |
