In the Junior division the medal awarded to Thomas F. Maxwell, who gave "The Fireman." in an attractive manner. Kenneth J. Kelly recited : "Uncle Podger Hangs a Picture." win ning second prize on it. Mrs. J. II. Butterfield. who has taken up her residence in a distant dis-tant state. St. Vincent's Xid Society. St. Vincent's Orphans' Aid society will hold its next regular meeting or. Tuesday afternoon. June 1. at St. V.n-cent's V.n-cent's home on Lotvell buolevard. As this will be the first gathering at which the Sisters have been hostesses, it is the desire of the president hat the meetinng be a very large one. Many members of the society have never visited the orphanage, and to them it will be a treat to wander over the spacious grounds, inspect every nook and cranny of the scrupulously clean buildings and watch the healthy, happy little ones to whom the Sisters of ciiar'ty are giving all a mother's care and attention. The meeting will close with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the dainty little chapel. I Loretto Heights Academy. The pupils of Loretto Heights academy acad-emy entertained their friends Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon. May 12, with a very creditable performance of "Joan of Arc." an adaptation from Schiller's great work. The costuming and staging stag-ing of the piece were especially worthy of mention. St. Mary's Alumnae Association. The Alumnae association of St. i Mary's academy invites all former pupils pu-pils of the school to attend the mu-sicale mu-sicale to be given in the school hall on California street Saturday afternoon, May 9. At the state convention of Knights of Columbus held last week at Boulder, the delegates to the national convention of the order at Mobile, Ala., were instructed in-structed to employ all legitimate means in their power to secure the establishment establish-ment of the prospective national home of the knights at Boulder. Such a home has long been considered, and it is expected ex-pected the matter will be definitely settled at the convention this summer. The Commercial association of Boulder will send a delegation to set forth the j claims of their, town. j Personal. Edward Kane, the popular member of the Sacred Heart college team who broke his arm last week white pitching too strenuously, has gone to his home in Trinidad. His accident will probably compel him to remain out of school for the remainder of the term. : Mrs. T. Tierney is very ill at her home, 2700 Stout street. Mrs. Tierney has been in failing health for some time and a change of climate last year, from which much was expected, proved a disappointment. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Merry'weather have gone to their home in southern I'tah. after a pleasant visit of two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Merry weather of 1276 Corona street. in Mrs. Patrick Mulrooney, who underwent under-went an operation recently at St. Jo seph s hospital, is rapidly recovering, and expects to leave the hospital during the week. ! Miss Catherine Curley left on Sunday for Goldfield. New. where she will make her home with her brother. Mrs. and Mrs. Dennis Sheedy and Miss Florence Sheedy have returned from New York. Miss Marie Sheedy will remain east for a while longer. Lew Kelly arrived in Denver during the week to spend his summer vacation with his family. Da-voren. who died last week at her home. 2430 California street, was shipped Sunday Sun-day evening to St. Paul for Interment. Je Maurice O'Donnell of 3220 Humboldt street passed away on Monday, May 17, at the age of 40 years. Funeral 'was held on Wednesday from Annunciation church under the auspices of the Cath-i olic Mutual Benevolent association and Ancient Order of Hibernians. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery. |
