Show TOY PISTOLS AGAIN. Under the heading, "Here Is a Timely Warning," Warn-ing," the Intermountain Republican of Sunday reproduced re-produced the editorial of the Intermountain Catholic Catho-lic calling attention to the law making the selling or giving away of toy pistols a misdemeanor, and adds: "Every year there is frightful pain because of the work of the toy pistols in use at Fourth of July. The things would be dangerous enough under the best circumstances. TBut the best has no part in them. They are scandalously cheap in their construction, con-struction, and add all the risk of a shiftless bit of mechanism to the known perils of a firearm. "The selling or giving away of these pistols is a violation of the law, and yet it is common knowl edge that they are sold, and that to very small children. chil-dren. A vigorous enforcement of the law would save many an accident, and avert much unnecessary unneces-sary pain." Meetings were held in a number of the ward houses on Sunday with the purpose in view of telling tell-ing people of the dangers which accompany the celebration of the Fourth with fireworks, which meetings were addressed by physicians of the city. According to the newspaper reports, one worthy physician expressed the hope that the legislature would enact a law prohibiting the sale of toy pistols, and calling upon parents to do all in their power to mold public opinion against their use. Public opinion is pretty well formed already, and the legislature leg-islature a long time ago passed the law making the selling or giving away of toy pistols a misdemeanor. It only remains for the constituted authorities to see that the law is obeyed and public opinion vindicated. |
