Show JUDGE IMMUNE FROM ARREST . f Bell Will Not AttemDt to Put His Threat Into Execution. t Telluride. Colo.. April IS. Adjutant General Sherman M. Bell, who yesterday yester-day announced his intention to arrest District Judge Theron Stevens because of his criticism from the bench of Governor Peabody and the state military authorities author-ities who are enforcing martial law in San Miguel county, today made another statement on the subject, in which he conceded that the judge "is Immune and free from arrest and civil process in the performance of his dutv and In the exorcise ex-orcise of his judicial functions while sitting sit-ting on the bench." After giving his views on the duties of the military under martial law. General Bell's statement concludes as follows: "Insurrection is .the rising of people against their government, or a. portion of it, or against an officer or officers of the government. It may be confined to mere interference of one or more individuals, or may have greater ends in view. Treason Trea-son is armed, or unarmed, and interference interfer-ence of citizens of the countv against the movements of the militia 1b treason and the punishment is death, whether they can read, write or comprehend Its true meaning and sacredness." |
