FISHER party friends, Verily it iss for the laboring SS ------- -- iain A. if the BY e their favoras e ry Fisher Every Democratic that distribution the same. People t's a good bee! the present campaign. William J. Bryan is the leader in the old move to convince the laboring man that the only hope for him is to vote the Democratic ticket. And there are some laboring men who will onee more be fooled into support of the Democratic ticket, platform, candidate and all. 3ut to understand the elaims of the Democrats in their protestations of friendship for the man who works, it is well to look into the records of legislation in those portions of the country that have been under Democratic control for any length of time. The one is portion of the country that has been absolutely dominated by, the Demoeratie party that portion south of the Mason and Dixon line, in political parlance known as the ‘‘solid South.'? There the Democratic party has held undisputed sway for nearly half a century -during all the time that the problems which have grown up in the country have been developing. What has the Democratic party done in the South for the laboring man? What is there in the record in that part of the country whieh should appeal to the laboring man as a good reason for supporting the Democratic party as the friend of the laboring man? We ask it in all sincerity. The Southern states are practically the only ones in_ the country whieh have not passed statutes against child labor. And the conditions in the mills and factories in the South are the worst of any in the country. It is true that the states which have child labor laws have difficulty in enforeing their provisions, but as a general thing the fact that they have been put on the statute books in the states under Republican rule and have not been placed on the books in the Democratie solid South is sufficient refutation of the elaims of the Democracy to be the friend ol the laborer. Before the laboring men of the country go to the polls and cast their votes on the promises of the Democratic platform and the utterances of the Democratic candidate, it would be well for them to consider what the Democratie party has dorfe for the laboring man in the only part of the country where it has been supreme. If the people who work for a living will do this, it is plain they will not vote into power in the nation the party that has been so backward in the en : ; . = : 6 actment of favorable legislation in the states where its sway . : er es ee is absolute. men in the Southland have : been the vietims of a racial hatred and racial | z The: laboring : 3 3 z particular striving sure this of the country as the one time-tried and only Simon-pure friend of the laboring man, These claims and the protestations which accompany them are based on the platform of the Success is the attainment ambition-the fulfillment of desire thing at rey Massage At Home BRYAN MR. 20, 1908.
