Show THEY HAVE THE RIGHT IDEA Caldwell's city council is in line for congratulations. congratula-tions. Its budget for the next fiscal year is reduced $10,000, another example of economical administration of local governments in war times. The percentage of reduction in Caldwell, population considered, is in step with the similar move taken by the Boise city council this week when its estimate whacked $60,000 off last year's total. Undoubtedly this proce dure will be followed in all Idaho communities. The Ada county commissioners are not to be overlooked over-looked in this proper trend to lower costs of local government. gov-ernment. The commissioners submitted new budgets which eleminated $80,000 from county expenditures. In. fact this group was the first to start the paring process. The reductions contemplated for the three governing govern-ing bodies' mentioned here total $150,000. Such policy on a state-wide basis releases a large sum for war demands. de-mands. The procedure is a challenge to all candidates for state offices in the coming elections. Federal government costs must have the right-of-way; they must be sufficient to win the war without inflation in-flation running rampant. Individuals will be taxed heavily form the federal standpoint. Cadidates for Idaho . offices, from the governor down, will be measured on the basis of the economy they can guarantee the taxpayers for the duration. Courage will be needed. Party hangers-on must be discarded dis-carded Political patronage must be forgotten. A war must be won a costly war, and the state government must do, a share fully proportionate to the splendid examples ex-amples set by the city governments of Caldwell and Boise.
