Show Mayor OpeDs Caiieer IPrive State Commander Of Field Workers Sets Up County Chapter Our nation is engaged in the greatest war in its history. No one questions tlie necessity of aiding this vital effort by every possible means. But in our concern about this phase oi; our national welfare we should not lose sight of other problems that continue to face us, despite the war. One of the proudest records of our city and of the nation is the high standard of public health that has been achieved through the efforts ef-forts of modern science and the cooperation oj voluntary organiza tions with the- health departments. Today one of the greatest problems they face is cancer the second greatest cause of death in the United Uni-ted States. Authorities in this field state, that almost two-thirds of the 15S.O00 lives lost annually from cancer, could have been sav ed if the victims had known the early symtoms of the disease, and the fact that early diagnosis and treatment are imperative. Idaho lost 4G5 citizens from cancer in 1941. I consider it an obligation to spread this vital information through any means in my power. Therefore, I proclaim the period April 1 to 30, 1942, as Cancer Control Con-trol Month and urge the public to support to the greatest possible ex. tent the work of the Women's Field Army of the American Society So-ciety for the Control of Cancer.
