Marchers Carry Slogans As Citizens Rally On Army Day; Both Pathos and Amusement In Parade That Featured Parents of Men In Armed Forces Preston contributed to the nationwide observance of Army Day last Monday when more than 300 citizens of Franklin county took part in a parade of patriots that featured the mothers and fathers of boys who are serving in the armed forces at distant places. Preceded bv the color auard of Prtstnn Amorin i parade threaded its way west on First South to State street then north to First East. It was viewed by several Hundred men, women and children who jammed every available adv; j itageous spot along the route. Bands from Preston Senior High school, Preston Junior High school, Franklin High school, Weston High school and Mink Creek provided the martial airs. There was bom pathos and amusement in the procession. Mothers and fathers of Uncle Sam's fighting legions, aid Legionnaires Legion-naires who fought in the other World war marched along. The Future Farmers of America provided an amusing touch. Preceding Pre-ceding the walking young farmers j was a youth pushing a wheel harrow. har-row. Pasted on the harrow was the sign "Keep 'Em Growing" and in the barrow was a bit of Franklin Frank-lin comity's best fertilizer. Also taking part in the parade were; Preston City Police, De j partment and Auxiliary, Preston City Fire Department, Carpenter's Union, Boy Scouts of America, Preston Lions club, Utah Poultry Poul-try association, Preston Red Cross Chapter, Bee Hive Girls, Girls' De, fense club, Sego Milk Co., U. S. Department of Agriculture War1 Board, Boys' Bicycle club, Preston Rotary club, Prestoi Junior Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, Preston Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, Franklin County Sugar company, Utah Power and Light company, Franklin county scrap iron truck and the Boots and Saddle club of Preston. Credit for the parade should go to Mel Reeves, secretary of Pres ton Chamber of Commerce, and other Chamber of members who as sisted Mr. Reeves |
