Show Owners Should I Comply With Bus Truck Inventory Each truck owner in Idaho has a direct personal interest in the success suc-cess of the national defense truck and bus inventory now under way, J. L. Balderston, commissioner, department of law enforcement, emphasized today in a statement to vehicle owners who have not yet ! responded to the inventory. Inventory returns have been re- ceived so far, he said, from 80 per cent of all truck and bus owners in the state and today we are sending send-ing a follow-up letter to those who have not answered. This self interest in the inventory inven-tory is explained,. Balderston said, in a recent statement by John L. Rogers, chairman, Central Motor Transportation Committee. Rogers has pointed out that in making recommendations to the Office of Production Management on the production pro-duction of trucks and truck parts, his committee "cannot be expected to take account of truck needs as to which it is not fully informed." The office of production management man-agement has already issued a priority pri-ority rating for production of medium me-dium and heavy trucks and replacement replace-ment partts, Baldterston explained. It is not the highest rating under the government priority system, but it is the same as that assigned for the production of rail fre'ght cars. In issuing this rating, the OPM was guided by the best available information on highway tranpsor-tation tranpsor-tation and its replacement requirements. require-ments. The original order may be modified when a more accurate picture pic-ture of the trucking industry is obtained ob-tained from the inventory. This is the reason each truck owner should fill out and return immediately the questionnaire carl he has received in the inventory, Balsterton emphasized. It is im- portant that his truck be a part of the total picture of the trucking industry which the OPM will take into account in issuing any future priority order. A few truck owners apparently hesitate to fill out the questionnaire question-naire card, Balderston said, because be-cause of one of the questions; "In case of emergency would you voluntarily vol-untarily hire or lease vehicle to a Federal agency?" Rogers has made the following statement on this point: "We do not expect every truck owner to answer 'yes' to this ques: tion. In many cases their rucks will already be engaged in essential essen-tial services and cannot be spared. But the government must have information on these trucks as well as all others in order to plan the production of trucks and truck parts to meet all requirements under the national defense program. pro-gram. It is necessary to know the age and kind of trucks in essential essen-tial services in order to plan replacements re-placements as they are required? O n |
