Show Many Attend Idaho Day Celebration U. S. Marine Color Guard, Dignataries, Lead Spirited Parade Defense Workers Heavy showers failed to dampen the patriotic enthusiasm of the throngs of people who Joined in the observance of Flag Day and Pioneer Day which occurred jointly joint-ly at Franklin Monday. Evon the sun broke through threatening clouds to beam down on parading units of county defense workers and groups representing all the united nations. The parade was heaaea Dy a color guard of U. S. Marines from the USAC naval and marine radio training center. An old pioneer stage-coach followed, carrying Governor Chase A. Clark and Elder Alma Sonne, assistant to tho council coun-cil of Twelve Apostles, together with members of the Idaho Day committee. The steadfastness and faithfulness faithful-ness of pioneer families who braved brav-ed all obstacles to obey the request re-quest of their foresiglited leader, President Brigham Young, to settle the now numerous thriving communities com-munities of the rocky mountains won praise from Governor Clark and Elder Sonne. William B. Wright of rocatello, was tue only one of the four remaining pioneers who arrived in Franklin in 18G0 to attend the celebration He played nn Important part as a railroad surveyor of tho old Utah Northorn line and as a peace maker with the Indians. Attorney P. J. Evans delivered u stirring address in tribute to our American Flag. The day's festivities were highlighted high-lighted by the colorful pageant which occurred at the conclusion of the parade at the ball park. It featured flags of all allied people. The pageant was directed by Mrs. Wilford Clark with Lylo Shipley as reader. In the girls' Softball game during tho afternoon of sports the Salt Lake Footprinters won from Job's Daughters of Pocatello. The baseball base-ball game betwoen Preston and Franklin was won by the Franklin Frank-lin team. Patrolman Harry Dabling complimented com-plimented motorists who through their cooperation with the law enforcement en-forcement orflrers kept the day's celebration free; from traffic accl-denls. |
