Show SIX-MAN FOOTBALL TO BE INITIATED INTO LOCAL SETUP Six-man football will be inaug urated into Franklin, county this year when Weston and Franklin take up the sport for the first time. Previously these two schools had played the regular eleven-man game but due to the small registration regis-tration in each school very little success had been enjoyed. Now with the new six-man game better and livelier competition can be provided at less expense. Reresentatives from at least four schools in Southeastern Idaho are meeting tonight, Thursday, lor the purpose of organizing a six man football league for class B. schools. The meeting is taking place in Franklin and schools who will definitely send representatives representa-tives are Weston, Arimo, and Thatcher, together with the host school. Other schools are exected to take up the game within the next year and in all probability a league of twice the size will play in 1941. At Franklin suits have been issued is-sued to 20 prospective gridders and according to School Superintendent Superin-tendent Homer Williams a great deal of enthusiasm is being shown. Competition for the six regular posts are especially keen and Franklin is expected to put a strong team on the field. Leo Bo-den Bo-den is the coach at the school. At Weston Onan Mecham has issued suits to 27 players and with 1 them last year putting a fairly strong 11-man team on the field they are expected to be very-strong very-strong in the six-man game. It has been announced that in addition addi-tion to playing the regular league members they will play at least one game with a six-man team from Burley district. |
