Show Preston Girdiron Aspirants Face Tough Fall Campaign With two of last year's starting I eleven back for another year's competition and a strong group of husky players who received competition com-petition on the reserve squad last year, the Preston High Indians will endeavor to be the first team to capture the championship in the Southeastern Idaho Class A football league, which will observe its initial year of competition this fall. Last year, with one of the strongest squads assembled at Preston High in the last few-years, few-years, the Indians went thorugh a schedule of six Idaho high schools without tasting defeat. They dropped their fiist game of the season to Logan, Utah, however how-ever and played a tie game with South Cache of Hyrum, Utah, in their two out of state encounters. Leading a squad of 48 gridders into action will be last year's captain, Marcel Chatterton and Glen Oliverson, clever regular quarterback from last year's team. Added to this duo will be a strong list of players who will capably fill in where last year's team left off. It is expected that for the first time in many years Preston will have substitutes who will be able to go into the game at - any time without materially weakening the team. Although the regular team will weigh about the same as last year's team, 157, the list of reserves re-serves will be bigger and stronger than for some time. These reserves re-serves will probably be made up mainly of sophomores and juniors who tip the scales at the present time well over 140 pounds. Besides Chatterton and Oliver-son Oliver-son the following players are. expected ex-pected to carry the main burden of the work this fall: Bill Kerr, Darrell Drury, George Johnson, Ralph Bergquist, John Smith, Alen Stevenson, and Fred Hanna, seniors; sen-iors; and Blaine Taylor, Duane Hobbs and Blaine Lemmons, juniors. jun-iors. Other juniors who are scheduled for a great deal of action however are Louis Christensen, Joe Hall, Dale Callan, Newell Johnson, and Vernon Hulse. A large group of sophomores will also probably break into the strong list of reserves and one or two of them may surprise and break into the starting lineup before be-fore the year is over. Included in the .group of players play-ers are the following players and their weights: Sid Garrett, 131; Russ Kearl, 157; Dick Carlson, 14S; Dean Palmer, 169; Clan-Pool, Clan-Pool, 140; Pat Condie, 151; Reese Merrill, 136; Kenneth Merrill, 142; Gerald Carver, 139; LaMonce Smith, 111; Ralph Keller, 117; Kendall Larsen, 111; Ronald Geis-ler, Geis-ler, 113; Seth Forsgren, 133; Jack Nelson, 136; Lavon Johnson, 112; Ray Johnson, 131; Alton Winger, 115; Reese Nielsen, 138; and Mel vin Tanner, 120. Preston will have had only eight days of practice before .the season sea-son begins at Logan with a game with the Logan High Grizzlies on September 13. They then return on September 20, for a game with the strong Burley high school team here. The rest of the schedule is as follows: September 27, open; Oc-tober Oc-tober 4, Malad here; October 11, American Falls at American Falls; October 18 and 25, beet vacation;' November 1, South Cache here'; and November 8, Montpelier at Montpelier.
