Show District Meet Of DUP Held Today PRESTON HOST TO FORTY DUP CAMPS Historical Expert Is Speaker During Afternoon A highly successful district convention of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers closed here Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon with an estimated esti-mated attendance of from 300 to 4O0 women present at various vari-ous sessions of the conclave at the Franklin Stake house. Two outstanding addresses were delivered by Charleton G. Laird of the University of Idaho Southern, an authority on history and historical his-torical relics, and Professor Joel R. Ricks of the USAC history department. de-partment. Delegates were present from the 29 Cache county camps and the 11 Franklin county camps. Among the officers present from Sail Lake City was Mrs. Kate B. Carter, president pres-ident of the DUP. Givtn particular stress during the meeting was the importance of obtaining the histories of pioneers, and a plea was made for additional funds for the construction of the memorial lo. early Utah pioneers ! to be constructed by the DUP or-1 or-1 ganizatlons at the Utah Capitol grounds. Appearing on the musical program pro-gram were the Oneida Stake Sing- ! ing Mothers and a woman's chorus I fromj Logan. 'There are two, cjuttrttiding qualities quali-ties of the pioneers (1) unity and (2) faith in leadership that make their achievement the "greatest colonization in the history, of the 1 world," Dr. Ricks stated, adding we need these same qualities if democracy is to be-, maintained.
