Show Accomplishments Of WPA Workers In Franklin County Listed Check on accomplishments for Franklin county up to June 30. 1940, shows that the WPA workers in this county have constructed' 019,817 feet of rural roads. 93.942 ,eet ol streets and alleys, and 5,-IU9 5,-IU9 feet of parkways. They have constructed ten new bridges with a total length of 2S feet, and have reconstructed fifteen fif-teen bridges with a total of 200 feet. They have constructed two new steel bridges totalling 104 feet and installed 219 culverts, amounting amount-ing to 3,So4 feet in length. They have constructed 9,304 feet of roadside road-side drainage and installed S74 feet of road drainage pipe, and 3.139 linear feet of water sprinkling system. These same workers have also constructed G,067 feet of cement sidewalks, installed 35,519 feet of concrete curb and gutter, and 5,194 feet of curb. They have reconstructed recon-structed 0,017 feet of paved sidewalks side-walks and landscaped 15,804 feet of road. Five new public buildings have been constructed and four public buildings have been reconstructed, mainly school houses, and one building has been demolished. They have constructed three small grandstands with a seating capaei-. ty of 925 persons, and have also constructed two new parks with an area of T2 acres and two athletic fields with an area of 52 acres, and have built one band shell. These workers have also construct- ed and installed two drainage tanks and reservoirs with a capacity of 500,400 gallons. They have dug and laid 20,130 feet of storm and sanitary sewer making 340 connections and building build-ing 37 manholes and catch basins, and constructed and installed 20S sanitary privies. They have built one commercial airport, comprising 216 acres, and one landing tield of 1S1 acres and have built 500 feet of runways and constructed one airport hangar building, and surfaced 105 square yards of high type surface. They have improved two ceme. teries, consisting of seventeen acres and landscaped and beautified beauti-fied seven acres of parks; have installed in-stalled 500 feet of drainage, other than roadside drainage, covering two acres at the airport; constructed construct-ed 242,151 feet of fencing; improved improv-ed 1,401 feet of fencing. They have dug one tunnel 504 feet in length for the purpose of diverting culinary water rum irrigation ir-rigation to be used by the village of Dayton, and have demolished one grandstand and one bridge |
