Show o o Quarterly Meet Of Cof C Attracts Large Attendance The first quarterly meeting of the membership of the Preston Chamber of Commerce was held at the reception rooms of tihe county courthouse on Tuesday evening with a record turnout. Guests of the chamber were fembers of the Preston Junior Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, officers of the Malad Junior Chamber of Commerce and a group of entertainers fiom the USAC. President Jed Lewis gave the address of welcome- and short talks were given by Vice President Ralph Strub and Secretary Mel Reeves. Toastmaster of the evening was R. R. Rowell. Entertainment included songs by Lyle Shipley, cartooning by Professor Profes-sor Thorpe of the USAC and musical musi-cal numbers frorm' a member of the USAC music department. Attorney A L. Merrill of Poca-tello Poca-tello was principal speaker of the evening. "Economic disintrigation is our fear of today in view of ever mounting indebtedness due to defense de-fense activity and the loss of foreign for-eign markets from the war," Mr. Merrill pointed out. Four?' fundamentals of economics must be observed if we are not to suffer economic, political and social disaster, he charged. They are (1) Intelligent work, (2) honesty, (3) thrift, and (4) cooperation. We must be ever on the alert to preserve pre-serve these fundamentals, he stated. The statistical report for the quarter was submitted in written form; along witlh invitations to the banquet. |
