Show Franklin, Weston Win Wednesday Rounds In Sub District Hoop Tournament Seven Teams Battle For Right To Enter District Meet Weston and Franklin climbed into the win column in Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon games with the Trojans, defending champions, cham-pions, defeating Clifton 39-32, and Franklin trounced Lava Hot Springs, 29-15. Other scores were Downey 28, Inkom 17. In one of the best matched sub-district sub-district tournaments on record, class "B" hoop teams in this area prepared to fight it out on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Thursday and Friday of this week at Lava Hot Springs. In the opening rounds last Saturday, Sat-urday, all but one of the games were settled, with a one or two point margin. Franklin county teams dropped their opening games but were still figuring strongly in the bid for the title. The top three teams in the round-robin will be eligible to participate in the district dis-trict tourney at Arimo on March 6-7-8. Clifton lost a heart-breaker to Inkom 19-18 in a -clash that was settled only after two overtime periods. Franklin high had a 5-point 5-point lead until the closing three minutes of their game with Downey, Dow-ney, losing, a thriller 26-25 in the final seconds before the gun sound- : ed. Weston, defending state "B" champions, didn't fare so well, however, for they lost to Arimo 35-17 35-17 when the champs Just couldn't "get going." Scores on the opening games were Lava 25, Clifton 23; Inkom 19, Arimo 24; Downey 26, Franklin Frank-lin 25; Inkom 19, Clifton 18; Downey Dow-ney 27, Lava 25; and Arimo 35, Weston 17. Downey and Aimo have assumed leadership in the early stages of the tourney with each having 2 wins and1 no losses. Following is a schedule of the appearance of the teams from Franklin county: Thursday, 27: noon, Weston vs. Franklin; 1 p. m. Downey vs. Arimo; Ari-mo; 7. p. m. Franklin vs. Arimo; 8 p. m. Weston vs Lava; 9 p. m. Downey Dow-ney vs. Clifton. Friday, 28 7 p. m. Franklin vs. Clifton; 8 p. m. Weston vs. Inkom. |
