Show PRESTON TEACHERS HOLD MID-YEAR FACULTY INSTITUTE The Preston teachers mid-year institute held Saturday provided an opportunity for the1 teachers to discuss current problems of the school among themselves and to hear advice and opinions from distinguished dis-tinguished educators invited to participate in the meetings. Dr. Ardeii Frandseu of the Utah State Agricultural college addressed address-ed the morning assembly and assisted as-sisted with the final general session ses-sion discussion on means of evaluating evalu-ating the teachers' work. A demonstration of first grade reading directed byi Maurine Evans formed a basis of a discussion led by Ethel E. Redfield and Lorenu Hendricks of the University of Idaho, Ida-ho, South. At the afternoon session ses-sion the elementary teachers analyzed an-alyzed the recently prepared state course of study and accepted it for use in the Preston city schools with some modifications. W. H. Handley of Weber college, formerly of the Preston schools, gave his recommendations for changes in the high school curriculum curricu-lum and program as he had discovered discov-ered the need oj them in the survey sur-vey made of graduates of the lasl ten years. John R. Nichols of the Southern Branch spoke on occupational trends at the present time. He pointed out a need for workers in public service, crime prevention and protection, medicine and nurs-1 ing, household service, barbers and 1 beauty culture, waiters, Janitors, j cooks, hotel managers and auto camp managers and commercial work' for men. n . . . n |
