Show Tribute Paid Dr. States Fairewell Testimonial For Well Known Resident And Wife Held Here Tuesday Special tributes have been paid to Dr. and Mrs. G. W. States at numerous civic and social functions func-tions during the past week in appreciation ap-preciation of the years of service spent in this community as the prominent cojiple retire fro mi public pub-lic life and prepare to make their home in Salt Lake City. A farewell testimonial for the couple was given jointly by civic and business associates Tuesday evening in the Third ward hall where messages of good will from ,'lifelong friends were expressed. Dr. ' Allen R. Cutler presented Dr, States with a portable ' radio at'a token o appreciation from tae Chamber of Commerce of Preston. The doctor was honored Wednesday Wed-nesday at a Rotary luncheon and received a token of esteem from his fellow members. Ail members of the Nash family who have been lifelong friends of the States-entertained in their honor last Wednesday Wed-nesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Wright at Franklrh. Dr. and Mrs. States came to this community thirty-eight years ago. There were no water systems elec trie lights, few telephones, and not a graveled road in the county. That was in the days of the horse and buggy doctor A slower process to the calls that the doctors make now in a fast, speeding automobile along smoothe surfaced highways Eight years were spent in Fiank-lin. Fiank-lin. The doctor helped plan Idaho Pioneer Day's first celebration and helped have June 15 set aside by the state legislature to be known as Tdaho Day. N. Larson, who was Preston's mayor at that time. Dr. States, with other business men of Preston, were signers and boosters of our Chatauqua programs, pro-grams, which were brought to Pres 'ton under a contract for a specific amount of money. Much good tal-ent tal-ent came to our town through these programs and most always the signers had to pay fifty to sev eral hundred dollars from their own personal money to make up the deficit. Dr. States was active in chamber cham-ber of commerce work, in our old county fairs, Cache Valley Medical Society and Rotary club. Mrs. States has figured prominently in ; many civic capacities and charitable charit-able work in the county, serving ' many years as head of the Red Cross work in the county. Dr. , States entire medical life has been spent in caring for the sick in this county. The couple wishes to express their thanks to their many friends for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received. They will be at home in Salt Lake City at 41 East Sunset avenue and will welcome all who may wish to call, o o |
