A cattle guard and one mile of fence has been constructed on the Forest) Boundary in Cub River canyon can-yon and another boundary fence project is being carried on by a twenty-five man crew from this camp housed at the Downey CCC camp. This work is in the Haw-i Haw-i Kins Creek region of the Malad di- ision of the Caiche National Forest ; bout 20 miles Northwest of Downey. Dow-ney. This crew has also done work m Cherry Creek Picnic Ground 12 r.iiles Southwest of Downey where additional camp Ground facilities are to be installed. Materials are r.ow being purchased for three more cattle guards and fencing projects which will be completed some time this spring. Work has also been done on the Cub River Springs Pioneer Monument. Monu-ment. This historic monument marks the crossing of an early mail route to Paris, Idaho. The work consists of developing a spring, erecting, a monument, providing pro-viding parking area and fencing the area. . A stock watering development devel-opment was also constructed in the Cub River canyon, consisting of pipe lines and installation of water troughs. There is also a great variety of work being done by the Cub River camp, such as maintenance of existing ex-isting camp grounds, . constructon and maintenance of road and trail signs. A deer checking station was maintained in the Cub River canyon can-yon last fall to check on the deer taken off this area of the Cache National Forest. Tn addition to the very worthwhile; worth-while; improvements which have or are being constructed, this camp is proving a valuable training center cen-ter for many skills important in National Defense, because of the fact that the Civilian Conservation Conserva-tion Corps, in its construction activities, ac-tivities, requires a large amount of equipment. It provides the opportunity, oppor-tunity, for training auto mechanics truck drivers, tractor operators compressor and jack hammer op' erators. for the handling of explosives, explo-sives, etc. Also opportunities are given for training as carpenters, painters and concrete workers In addition to training, activity at this camp, selection has been made of enrollees particularly qualified for defense schools at Hyrum and at Pocatello. The most worth while training of course is given on the job where the forest service furnishes fur-nishes supervision through,1 competent compet-ent mechanics and foremen In the different types of work.
