The ladies featured a dinner din-ner in commemoration of the birthday birth-day anniversary of Brigham Young and appeared in pioneer costume. Eliza 11. Snow, Brigham Young and the pioener trapper were among the characters represented. MRS. DEAN SWIFT IS HERE FOR DURATION Mrs. Dean Swil't arrived last week from Honolulu and will visit with her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Swift, during the present war emergency. Her husband who enlisted in the coast guard is with the service in the islands. CLUB ENJOYS AFTERNOON AT DAVIS HOME Clover Leaf club were Friday afternoon guests at the home of Mrs. David E. Davis where the time was spent in rook games, followed fol-lowed by a tasty luncheon. Score awards were given to Mrs. Stanley Winn and Mrs. L. E. Han-, Han-, ?en. MISS VERA WILLIAMS, WAYNE BOWDEN MARRIES Mr. and Mrs. Roland Williams of Weston announce the marriage of their daughter, Vera, to Wayne Bowden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alma H. Bowden of Dayton. The marriage took place in the Logan temple on Friday, June 5. The young couple left immediately for San Francisco, California, where Mr. Bowden is employed. Patriarch and Mrs. Reese Davis are visiting their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Davis, Jr., in Twin Falls, where Patriarch Davis had the privilege of blessing his great-grandson, the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Arlen Bastian, and giving him the name of Reese John, the third. Miss Betty Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lowe and a former student of the USAC, left last week for southern Utah where she will spend the summer months as one of the entertainers at the National Park. GROUP OF FRANKLIN LADIES COMPLETE RED CROSS COURSE IN NUTRITION Nutrition certificates will be presented to the following Franklin Frank-lin ladies who have completed the required twenty hours of study in the Red Cross nutrition course which has been directed by Miss Sara Madsen, instructor for Franklin Frank-lin county; Mesdames Tressa Biggs, Blanche Kingsford, Constance Con-stance Wickham, Blanche Kings-ford, Kings-ford, Bessie Ralph, Helga Hampton, Hamp-ton, Florence Albiston, Julia Hobbs, Helen Bradford, Nora Stokes, Levinia Gregory of Maple-ton, Maple-ton, Ruby Anderson, Norma Dur-rant, Dur-rant, Mabel Robinson and Aletha Handy. A similar course will be otrered in Preston within the near future for ladies who are interested in the work and will include instruction instruc-tion on the following points, food values, daily food requirements, new vegetable cookery, sugar substitutes, sub-stitutes, canning and family budgeting. bud-geting. TWO PARTIES MARK PAST WEEK FOR ZETAS Zeta Pi girls partook of the hospitality hos-pitality of Miss Jean Sawyer and held their meeting at her home at the Oneida Station last Monday. Following a short business session the girls enjoyed swimming and a bonfire luncheon. Friday evening the girls entertained enter-tained their partners wiLh a well planned canyon party. Twenty-five Twenty-five couples participated in the trip which featured hiking and a wiener roast. Mr. and Mrs. William Wil-liam Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Evans as sponsors accompanied accom-panied the young people on their party. BRIGHAM YOUNG MEMORIAL TEA AT FRANKLIN The Ellen Wright camp of the Daughters of the Pioneers entertained enter-tained at a social and tea in the school gymnasium Thursday afternoon aft-ernoon with Captain Alice Woodward Wood-ward in chai'ge, the proceeds from Which were contributed to the Brigham Young Memorial. Table games were enjoyed by 50 guests and score prizes were awarded to the following; Bridge, Mrs. Bertha Cornish; ' 500, Mrs. Ida Fuhriman; pinochle, Maggie Jamison Jami-son and sorry, Mrs. Wilford Hatch. A short program which followed included songs by Mrs. Norma Spilsbury of Preston and a reading by Mrs. Areta Doney. |
