Utah State's defending Rocky Mountain conference basketball champions are taking a much-needed much-needed rest this week and are anxiously an-xiously awaiting the outcome of i the BYU-Utah series which is be-. be-. ing played at Salt Lake City this Friday and Saturday. The results of this Salt Lake City series will mean much to the cagers of Coach Dick Romney for a split In the games will give the Aggies the western division title while a clean sweep for BY will mean that Utah State will need a win over the Cougars when they invade the Aggie lair on February 21 and 22. The Aggies are sitting in the much-preferred spot for the title while for Ott Romney's clan from Prove an uphill fight will be staged if they are fortunate enough to come through at this late stage of the season to gain the crown. The first scrimmage of the week was held on Thursday night and that only lasted for a few minutes. Romney isn't taking any chances on his team going stale for he emphatically says Utah Aggies Ag-gies are good enough to win their way into the Olympic playoffs. Coming out of the Provo series last week with two wins was somewhat of a surprize to many fans who considered a split was inevitable. Those two wins put Utah State at the top once more and from present indications those two wins won the division for the Logan team. However, the game is not over until. the final gun has barked and neither is the race so Utah State will have to be content con-tent with first place in the lead until the Cougars lose one more ball game, whether it be this week - or next |
