Show Leaders Map Plans for VVest Agriculture Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace and his aides from Washington, D. C. urged the directors di-rectors of experiment stations and extension servce for the eleven r.tates to work for the solution of regional and national problems as well as those within the individual in-dividual states, during the recent western agricultural planning conference con-ference held at the Utah State Agricultural college. "There is more richness of life and more satisfaction in the cooperative co-operative approach than in the individual approach", said Secretary Secre-tary Wallace. "We are gradually shading away from individualism and looking at problems from the standpoint of the whole. For some time now instead of seeking God in our own souls, as was customary custo-mary in th epast, we have, been seeking for God in the souls of ether human beings and their organlzations." The federal authorities attending attend-ing the conference were assured by the western directors that the administration is"on the right track" in making thorough inves- j tigation of the agricultural resources re-sources and conditions and in determning what the people themselves them-selves want in the way of a program. It was pointed out, however, how-ever, by several of the western delegates that only the surface has been scratched in the amount of research work which has been done and much more study is necessary in determining the car-dying car-dying capacity of the ranges, developing de-veloping new crops, developing water and storing it, making surveys sur-veys of soils, finding superior breeding animals and plants, and checking soil erosion. A new federal program which calls for group discussions among farmers; individual county agricultural agri-cultural program planning in view of the programs for the region and the nation; and the new plans for the AAA, were discussed by more than 100 representatives of the far west befor the delegation dele-gation from the national capital. |
