Show New Geology Head Named At College Dr. James Stewart Williams of Provo has been chosen as the new head of the geology department at the Utah State Agricultural college, col-lege, it was announced by authori ties Tuesday. Dr. Williams received his bachelor's bach-elor's degree at the Brigham Young university in 1923. For two years following graduation he was instructor in-structor in physics and chemistry at that institution. In 1925 he was appointed assistant in physics at Columbia university and received his master's degree in 1927 at that institution. The following year Dr. Williams entered George Washington Washing-ton university, Washington, D.C. an in 1932 he received his doctor's degree. "Last yeaf " he spent in research re-search work at Yale university and the Peabody museum. During summers and vacation periods from 1919 to 1923 he worked work-ed with surveying and field parties par-ties in Utah, and New York; did research work with the Smithsonian Smithson-ian Institute and the Peabody museum. He is a member of Sigma Xi, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, the Geological society of Washington and the Paleontological society. Dr. Williams plans to build up the geological museum at the local institution through exchanges of western for eastern fossils, minerals min-erals and rock formations, he said upon arrival here. Such exchanges will be negotiated through the Smithsonian Institute and the Peabody museum. |
