Show PASSING OF MRS ASHDOWN 00 Sunday last the people of Cedar were grieved to learn of f the death of Mrs Elizabeth Ashdown who quietly passed beyond after suffering from dropsy for a period of several months Elizabeth Jackson Ashdown was was born April 20 29 18 1840 a in P Pratte atts Bottom Kent England She with her husband emigrated to Utah in 1877 arriving at Nephi wl ere they remained several weeks and finally came to city about December 1977 They were converted to the L. L D D. D S. S faith in England but did not join this religious sect until June 1878 00 Funeral services were held in the tabernacle Tuesday afternoon and the building was taxed to capacity to seat those who had come to pay their last tribute of respect to one who was known as a woman of high ideals and Stirling character as well as a devout Latter-day Latter saint Her life had been such that she had won the love lov and nd respect of all who bore her acquaintance among them being scores acores of the younger generation A pleasing feature of the services was the attendance of every pupil of the Junior High School ed edby by their instructors who had as as as- in honor of the departed woman woman wo wo- wo man and to show their respect to io her daughter Mrs Geo Perry who is isone isone isone one of the instructors of the Junior High The students occupied the entire entire en en- tire gallery of the building and satIn satin sat satIn In respectful silence during the whole of the services listening closely to J r of the the remarks speakers kers The services were re in charge of Counsellor Kenneth Macfarlane The opening song by the choir was Lead Kindly Light Prayer was offered by Elder Andrew Andrew An An- drew Corry after which Bp E. G Matheson said he felt honored to have been called to say a few words He had for ye years years rs considered Sister Ashdown a friend and neighbor and a worthy one for whom he had great respect Had known her since 1881 and had watched the career of this honorable woman and mother It was to him always a great pleasure to meet Sister Sister Sis ter Ashdown and h he had always found her stalwart in living the principles principles principles prin prin- of the gospel She was a woman woman wo wo- wo man of great kindness b being ing kind to the poor and needy She has kept the faith and lived a good life for which she is entitled to a rich reward in the Kingdom of God The speaker said that the children who are now called to mourn have been deprived of a loving mother but they havethe havethe have havethe the joy of knowing that she is at re rest refit t tand and now enjoying the glory of heaven Mrs Annette sang the beautiful song Beautiful Isle of Somewhere Elder Alf All Cowers of Nephi who came to this country from England with the deceased was the next speaker speak speak- er er and said in part that he had come cometo cometo cometo to this country with Aunt Lizzie Uzzie as she was known to him They had ridden on the same train fr from m their old country home to Liverpool ed the ocean on the same ship to Castie Castle Castle Cas Cas- tle tie Garden New York and occupied J x i 0 train across the continent to Utah arriving in Nephi where the deceased lived for a short time before coming to this part of the state He had known Aunt Lizzie for 50 years and told of ot her kindness to her invalid invalid invalid in in- valid father when hen coming to this country how thoughtful she was was to those she loved Knew her to be a good woman waman of excellent character and and of a deeply religious nature He had loved her as he had his own mother The speaker dwelt a Ii short time on the resurrection stating that the departed was one that would have ha havethe havethe the great privilege of the resurrection and was entitled to everlasting life She had simply passed on and was now enjoying the great privileges of af the blessed Elder E. E J.
