Show Splendid Tribute Paid Old Pioneer " The grim reaper claimed another of Gunnison's highly respected and beloved citizens Wednesday of last week, when Mrs. Gustave Erickson passed to the great unknown. Following Follow-ing broken health for several years, Mrs. Erickson suffered a stroke of apoplexy some three weeks before her death, and at the home of her son, Fred H. Erickson, and in the ? presence of members of the family, the end came peacefully and without a struggle. Mrs. Erickson, daughter of Erick and Anna Chare Erickson, was bom September 1, 1852, at Borstill, Sweden. Swe-den. She was married to Carl E. Erickson December 26, 1877, at Chil-lrnge, Chil-lrnge, Sweden. Mr. and Mrs. Erickson came to America in June, 1881, making mak-ing their first home at Fountain Green. Later they came to Gunnison where for the past 50 years Mrs. Erickson had made her home continuously. contin-uously. Before emigrating to the . United States, Mrs. Erickson became a member of the Mormon church and her ljfe's work had been devoted to doing good and helping the sick and needy. She was a kind and devoted mother and wife, ever striving to do good for all. ' Surviving the mother who has been called are three children, one daughter, Mrs. A. V. Metcalf, and two sons, E. J. . and Fred H. Erickson, Erick-son, all of Gunnison. Sixteen grandchildren, grand-children, and eight great-grandchildren' are also lef,t as survivors. " Solemn and ' impressive funeral services for Mrs. Erickson were held Sunday afternoon from the high school auditorium. Bishop Joseph A. Larson was in charge, and following the-opening hymn, "Farewell All Earthly Honors," by the choir, invocation in-vocation was said by President Chas. S.; Hansen. Other musical numbers were "Beautiful Home," by the choir, a vocal solo, "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," by Mrs. Stevenson, and the closing number, "Resting Now from Care and Sorrow," by the choir. . Speakers were H. C. Olsen, Chas. E,' Embley , and Bishop Larson. Each paid a loving tribute to the mother and- words of comfort were spoken for those who are left to mourn. A splendid tribute to "Mother," written by Mrs. Elmer Holyeson, was read at the services by Mrs. John M. Anderson. Benediction was offered by S. J. Fjeldsted and the grave dedication dedica-tion was done by Eishop Larson. |
