Show New York Will Be Cotton Port New York. Plans to make New York one of the greatest cotton ports in the United States will take definite defin-ite shape Thursday when members of the New York Cotton Exchange will be asked to authorize the board of j managers to negotiate an expansion j contract with the bayway terminal, a large warehouse development at j j Elizabeth, N. J., on Staten Island i ' Sound, involving expenditure of about $5,000,000 by the terminal company. I Under the proposed contract, the Bay-way Bay-way terminal agrees to provide by I October 1, 1927, dock space of 1200 j feet to accommodate vessels of 10,000 j tons and berth space for eighteen lighters at one time, with facilities for handling daily 150 freight cars and loading or unloading 7500 bales of cot- I ton in three eight-hour shifts. A high ! density compress will be installed at j the warehouse, where cotton will be ! compressed as ordered by owners or shippers. , I |
