Show Bergeson Urges Full Cooperation Declaring that the farmers were largely responsible for the conditions in which they an? today and urging absolute cooperation and strong o'r-, o'r-, animation in the farm bureaus of the stale, Kphriam Borcwson, president of the slate farm bureau, admonished the farmers of the Great Gunnison Valley Val-ley to awake to the realization of their conditions and back up the local, state and county farm bureaus by becoming be-coming active in the groat work that is before them. Mr. Bergeson addressed ad-dressed nne of the largest audienes ever seen at the Casino theater at the meeting last Friday evening. Every seat was filed and standing room was at a premium, and throughout the speaker held his vast throng of list eners spellbound. The farm bureaus must solve the problems of the agriculturists, said Mr. Eergcson, and the actions that have been and are now before congress, con-gress, concerning the farmer, are getting but very little consideration. Until concerted action, and by every farmer in the United States, is ex-erised ex-erised and put over, the farmer is sure to drift along in the same old rut and be the sufferer. After touching touch-ing upon national affairs concerning the farmers, Mr. Bergeson took up local conditions and urged a full support sup-port of the local sugar factory. The Utah sugar industry, said the speaker, is one of the big factors, and without it Utah would be far behind be-hind her sister states. Star-ting with a small factory the state now has many big sugar mills throughout the state and through this medium millions mil-lions of .dollars are brought Jiere annually an-nually and employment is given thousands thou-sands of men and children. "We must maintain our sugar factories by giving them the fullest support," continued Mr. Bergeson. "If the factories were to close the state would lose the best money maker. You folks of Gunnison Gunni-son Valley, through your sugar factory, fac-tory, have an annual income of approximately ap-proximately $500,000 from your beets. Don't let this get away. Back up your factory and keep this money here it's more than you can make at anything else. Conditions, sooner or later, will arrive where the grower of beets will profit better, and this will be through organization of the growers grow-ers and the maintaining of a real live farm bureau organization." Industries with payrolls, Mr. Bergeson Berge-son stated, are what keep a country alive and prosperous. Capital will not seek an inactive section and if your factory is not supported you cannot can-not expect other and new industries. In closing, Mr. Bergeson urged every grower, every business man and every wide-awake citizen to get squarely back of the one big industry of the valley and make it a success, adding that, if it were to close for lack of support, land values and everything would depreciate to the level of starvation.. star-vation.. Joseph Christensen. president of the Sanpete-Sevier Beet Growers association, associa-tion, and W. Harvey Ross, president of the Gunnison Sugar company, gave encouraging addresses, touching upon the line of cooperat'on that would lead to success for all. , |
