Show , I SuggestsMovement ' To Attract Visitors "Nearly eveiy town in the country' presents u prosperous appearance duiing the day" says F. H. Jones, manager of the J. C. Penney company .".tore. "What do we look like after, dark? , "There is where many towns arej getting ahead at the piescnt time and making themselves knowj throughout the country. i "Much of the motor car touris ! travel reaches town after the store.i are closed. It is the habit of the tourist to drive all day and then stop at the nearest town at the approach of dark. "What buying he does is done In the morning before the start for the next day's run. ' "Whether the buying is done In town or is held over for the next town depends on the kind of reception recep-tion he gets when he drives in. "Well lighted main streets, stors windows that are lighted at least until un-til midnight, all reflect a cheery sort of welcome that invites the visitor to stop over for a few hours in the morning. ; "Word of mouth advertising of a town spreads fast and far. A tourist tour-ist who stops here tonight and next day tells someone fifty miles from here, 'that this is a good town,' is a business builder for local merchants. "An organization of local merchants mer-chants and other business men whinh will make it their business to see that the streets are attractipe at night will be doing a real service to the town and building new sales for themselves. "There are nearly 900 J. C. Penney Pen-ney company stores at the present time. These stores are located in every kind of a community. And every manager says that 'what we look like at night' is back of a lot of the business we do in the daytime." |
