Show Big Alfalfa Plant Now in Operation Gunnison Valley's Alfalfa Meal mill, which has been idle for many years past, was put into commission the first of this week and is making a record far beyond the expectations of the operators, the Delniue Livestock Live-stock company. For the past week expert mechanics have been overhauling overhaul-ing the entire plant and following several adjustments and rearrangements rearrange-ments of the machinery the plant went into commission and on an average av-erage of 48 tons of alfalfa is being ground every ten hours. Mr. Delmue, who has been here from Salt Lake for some two weeks or more, supervising the rehabilitating rehabilitat-ing of the plant, expressed himself as being highly pleased with the tresults that are being- obtained. Mr. Delmue has had a wide experience and has operated many mills throughout the state, and he declares, while the Gunnison Gun-nison Valley plant is smaller than many others he has operated; it is producing more ground alfalfa in one day and is giving better results, than my he has ever operated. The electrical elect-rical parts have been replaced and greater power has been added and the mill is working satisfactorily throughout. through-out. The vast tonnage of hy that is V eing prepared at the mill is hauled in and after being ground is taken to the different feeding stations where it is used for fattening the sheep. As . result of the excellent feed that is being used some fancy stock is finding find-ing its way to the markets from the valley. Last week 1000 -head of sheep '.were sent out and the bunch was. without question, among the best ever sent from herd Thi, shnep brought the top prices and wholesale buyers are seeking all that can be produced here, claiming it to be superior to many others. There are some 17.000 head of sheep now being fed in the valley and each week will see shipments go out and altogether the fVst year's experiment ex-periment in making the Valley a stock feeding center, will prove a huge success. Announcement is made that next vear will see the industrv more than double that of this year. It is planned to feed 50,000 to 75,000 next year in Gunnison Valley. |
