Show Many Cattle Die From Oak Poison Considerable alarm has been occasioned oc-casioned among the cattlemen ranging rang-ing in Twelve Mile' canyon on account ac-count of the death of many of the cattle and to determine the exact cause state veterinarians have been making an investigation. At last reports re-ports more than 100 cattle had died and it is believed that it was the result of oak poisoning. State Veterinarian Vet-erinarian Webb, who was called to the county by the several stockmen, was undecided as to the causee of the deaths, first believing that the cattle were dying from hemorrage septicemia. septi-cemia. Several of the animals that were stricken, however, were killed and post-mortum examinations were made. Portions of the animals were taken to Salt Lake and a complete examination will be made by the state pathologist and the findings will be eagerly looked for. The low larkspur, according to rangers riding in that section, is in full bloom in Gunnison valley, and in order to give ample protection to the stock, an extra herder has been employed to guard against deaths from this cause, until the plants die out. The losses from oak poisoning thus far this season will amount to approximately ap-proximately four per cent of the . total nimber using that district. |
