Show Connie Mack Says Ruel Is Best in Big League Connie Mack, famous leader of t lie Athletics, regards Muddy Kuel of Washington as the best catcher in the major leagues. That is some compliment compli-ment for a catcher who for a half j dozen years floundered about as the second-string catcher on the New York and Boston clubs in the American league. When Kuel was secured by Washington Wash-ington he got a chance to work regularly, regu-larly, sharing the catching with Eddie Gharrity. Then an injury to Gliarrily caused practically all the catching to fall on Ruel. While Kuel is rather slight for a catcher he thrived on regular reg-ular work and has finally come into his own, reached the pinnacle of stardom star-dom as a big leaguer. "Kuel is the best catcher in either major league," says Mack. ''He has handled his pitchers in line style and has been a terror at the bat. In addition addi-tion he is tireless, the type of catcher that makes every player on his club perk up. Kuel, to my way of thinking, think-ing, Is easily the best catcher of the year !n every department of play." |
