Show Membership Drive Bringing Results "We i'te meeting with Jsplcndid success in securing membership to the .Auto Club of Utah during the present drive and we feel that we are going to' meet with fine success during our trip through Southern Utah. Since leaving the capitol city we have visited Provo, Payson, Sanpete San-pete county towns and all of the cities in Utah county and many renewals re-newals have been made and many new members have been enrolled as members of the club." Thus spoke Leo A. Bird, membership secretary of the Auto Club of Utah, to a News man Tuesday of this week. Mr. Bird was accompanied by John Clayton, Clay-ton, who is aiding in securing membership mem-bership to the organization. "We will continue our journey to St. George," continued Mr. Bird and we are confident of not only getting old members to renew but we have been assured that there are many who are seeking to become new members with a view of getting more recognition recogni-tion in the way of having tourists come to the southern part of the state." The Auto club of Utah, which has in view of treating tourists impartially, imparti-ally, has established several points in Salt Lake and the state where reliable re-liable information can be given as to the scenic points of the state. It is also opposed, as are most of the citizens of the states, against the "funneling" of the tourists directly into the state capitol and thence on out over the bleak and barren deserts that lead from the Wendover road. Utah, has without doubt, the greatest great-est array of real scenic wonders, of any state in the union and this scenery sce-nery is located in the Southern section, sec-tion, where are to be founnd Fisk Lake, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Zion's Natural Park end hundreds of other attractive points. And, too, the Chamber of Commerce through the cooperation of the citizens of the state, gathered together some $75.-000 $75.-000 for the purpose of advertising the scenic wonders of the state, and bringing recreation hunters to the commonwealth. If the residents of the southern section are to enjoy the benefits that follow and if the citizens are to really real-ly enjoy advertising from the expenditure expend-iture of the vast amount of money it is time that some concerted action be taken to direct the travel southward south-ward instead of across the Nevada deserts. |
