KEARNS The political "pot" in Gunnison was giwrn a real start in boiling h X Saturday night when two ticket-, were placed in the field for the suffrage suf-frage of the citizens. Both meeting.-? wore held simultaneously at the same building the city hall, but of course in separate rooms. There we-re not a great many seeking the office-.1: and both meetings went off harmoniously. har-moniously. It is rumored,, however, that some who did not take an active pai-t in either primary, were dissatisfied, dissatis-fied, and threatened to put a third party up. Coolness on th-? part of some of the leaders, though, frustrated frust-rated the plan. Parley Christiansen, who has served serv-ed faithfully during his two years as mayor, was the choice of the Go"d Government party to head the ticket. Clifford II. Chidls, former city recorder, re-corder, and widely known in political politic-al circles, was chosen as the candidate candi-date for the four-year term as city counci'njan. Pomning as councilmen for the two-year term are B. A. Marl-sen, Marl-sen, J. A. Larson and J. A. Tuft. John S. Peterson is the hold-over councilman and only four are to be voted on. Harry J. Roylance, former prominent promin-ent farmer, but who has reHed, wf" named as city recorder, and Mrs. H. A. Reams, present incumbent, was the choice at the primaries for city treasuer. J. A. Tuft was named as chai--I man of the party for the coming two j years, and C. H. Childs was chosen , as secretary. In the event of anv ' of the candidates refusing to run. C. . H. Childs. J. A. Em-j ! est Swalberg, former bishop of the j Gunnison ward and prominent in j 'church and business circles, was nom- ' inatcd as a candidate for Mayor to ! head the Citizens party ticket. For j the four-year term councilman C. D. Michatlson was a winner. Michaelson j had a contender for this office in the person of Marenius Beauregard. On j the first ballot the candidates tied.' On the second vote Beauregard lost! a vote, and Michaelson was declared the nominee. The two-year councilmen, II. C. Olson, Sid J. Baxter and Harold ' Christensen, are all well known and ' amply qualified to fill the offices. Nephi Gledhill, present city recorder.! and again chosen for the position, as well as Miss Linda Bardsley, nom-1 inee for the office of city treasurer, j arc both well known and will add strength to the ticket. In the reorganization of the party-officers, party-officers, J. E. Metcalf will act as chairman, and J. C. Peterson will be the secretary. J. M. Knighton was named, as head of the executive committee com-mittee with power to name his own members to fill vacancies. It was announced, also, that Mr. Knighton will be at the head of the campaign for the Citizens party, at the election to be held November Sth. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Palmer, Phyllis and Willis Whitbeck, former resident of Gunnison. ca?ne in from their home at Fillmore last Friday and wore guests of friends and relatives here until Monday. |
