Show Axtell Graduates Twelve Students The Axtoll schools, at the commencement com-mencement exercises held at the school house at Axtell last Thursday evening, closed a very successful term and diplomas were awarded to a large class. The program for the occasion consisted of recitations, .songs and playlets and much of the work was under the supervision of Miss Alice Olsen. The first and second sec-ond grades gave a playlet, "Hans and Gretel," and this was followed t by another playlet "The Flower's Friend.' The graduating class, consisting of twelve, and under the supervision of lincipal Royal Whitlock, gave the following program: Address of Welcome ..Olive Despain. ('lass History ....Florence Sorenson. Valedictory Ruby Nielson. Closing Song Eighth Grade. Following the program the diplomas diplo-mas were presented to the graduates. gradu-ates. s The Axtell Primary enjoyed a festival at the Gunnison Reservoir park Monday afternoon of this week. At eight o'clock, twelve automobiles, ladened with merrymakers and plenty of "goodies" tucked away in baskets, motored to the reservoir and enjoyed a delightful time. In the morning the following program was given: Song "Welcome to All" ..Primary. Invocation Bp. C. L. Despain. Welcome Address ....Primary Pres. Song Sea Gull Girls. Recitation LaVonna Frandsen. Remarks Carl C. Nielson. Quartet Selection Willard Barton. and Company. Song Vivian Sorenson. Prayer Alivin Jensen. The crowning of the "May Queen," attended by maids of honor, proved impressive with the ceremonies at-. at-. tendant. The crown bearer, king, pages and flower girls were represented repre-sented by members of the class and altogether was cleverly done. The braiding of the May Pole and the musical numbers given by Willard Bartin, added much to the program. Following an elaborate luncheon sports were indulged in, the feature being a baseball game between the married men and the young girls. The young ladies were victors in this contest. Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Larson are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine baby boy born to them last Saturday. Satur-day. All are doing nicely at the Larson Lar-son home. Little Howard Jacobsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Jacobsen, underwent under-went an operation for ruptured appendix ap-pendix at the Salina hospital last Saturday. The little fellow is reported report-ed to be progressing nicely. The primary officers met at the home of Bp. C. L. Despain Wednesday Wednes-day evening of last week. A social time was enjoyed by those present. Seymour Jensen of Mt. Pleasant, has returned to his home at Mt. Pleasant, after spending a few days at Axtel visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Jensen. Mrs. Geo. Morley has returned i home after visiting with relatives and friends at Springville for a few days. j Maurice Jensen visited with friends j at Mt. Pleasant last week. |
