Show i Gunnison Lions Slam Salina Cubs The "cubs" that belong to the Salina Sal-ina Lions club learned that the real Lions from Gunnison had real claws last Sunday. The fellows from the south also learned that Gunnison Lions were past masters in the art of playing baseball, and the roars that this fact brought forth. When I the overworked scorekeeper made the final announcement, the score stood 22 for Gunnison as against 5, the very few the boys from the southern south-ern jungle mustered in. It was thrilling exciting, hot and lively bout but friendly. The game was the result of a defi issued by the Lions from Salina. Just as soon at Lion "Min" Carlisle got courage enough to tackle the "old leos" from this city, a message was dispatched. Instanter Lion Fred Jones met the defi and the game was ! arranged to be played at Salina. Nine of the "junglemen" from the Gunnison club, accompanied by twice that many "boosters" went to the sister city to the south. Of course the game started and Lion Mayor Barnard set an example as to how 'j the pitchers should act in tossing the first ball across the plate. Lion A. I J. Lewis, was the "guesser" and he I came in for many "roasts" but at ', that he did his best and as an umpire ) he escaped the "pop bottle" brigade. Farrell, Petty and Freeccf, after '. wearing out three arms, declared they ' could not master the heavy "stick" l artists from Gunnison. Pat Arnold land Fred Jones were the "boxmen" ;ifor Gunnison. Hart Sanders, the 'real player, took advantage of a Sal-'. Sal-'. ina Lion and while the latter was ; asleep in center field, knocked a "fly-i- er" and before the ball could be field-;. field-;. ed the Sanders man made a clean sweep of the bases. : It was intended to run a box score, ;! but due to the fact that several hun-' hun-' dred changes were made, Lions giv-: giv-: ing up from fatigue and heat, it is impossible to run the list of names. Several good hits were made some : I by accident, of course, and there were i so many errors that the reporter j does not wish to hurt feelings, so the names of those making errors are J omitted it's Lionism you know. |
