Show Chemistry Known in India 2,000 Years Ago The scholars of India in the days of the Roman empire had evolved v. science of chemistry and knew of the existence of hydrogen and oxygen, according ac-cording to discoveries announced by C. It. Kokatnur, a chemist, of 50 East Forty-first street. According to Mr. Kokatnur's computations, the discovery discov-ery of these elements in India antedated ante-dated their discovery in the western world by about 2,000 years. Mr. Kokatnur evolved his theories from a Sixteenth century manuscript, which, in turn, was taken from writings writ-ings coining down from before the Christian era'. According to Mr. Kokatnur, a word which corresponds to the English word "chemistry" has been traced to these pre-Christian days, together with other nouns denoting various dyes, perfumes and fibers. -New York Times. |
