Show HONEY AND WATER KEEPS IT FROM FREEZING "In your last issue I notice you mentioned the honey mixture as an anti-freezing preparation for automobiles auto-mobiles and I think it will be well to publish a few words of caution to its ut;ers iri the preparation of the honey," writes Hon. Dan H. Hillman, state apiarist, to My ton's Free Press a few days ago. "It has been thoroughly tried out in some of the Eastern States as well as in some parts of this state last winter and it has been found that a preparation of half water and half honey, boiled to- i gether will stand in this climate, but a third honey and two-thirds water would freeze. The honey and water should be thoroughly boiled together before put in the radiator, otherwise the water may separate from the honey and freeze. As the water evaporates eva-porates move may be added as it is found that the honey does not evaporate. evap-orate. At fifteen degrees below zero this mixture half and half was found to congeal into mush ice, but did not freeze solid. I think it would be well to mention this in your paper as some might put in the honey and water separately, and, therefore, the water very likely would freeze and cause trouble." |
